GOAL launches its oil and gas technical & vocational programme for 2022
– Applications close September 17, 2022
For the second year, the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), in partnership with 3t EnerMech, is offering blended technical and vocational training scholarships to Guyanese interested in pursuing careers in the oil and gas industry.
The oil and gas technical and vocational programme is another educational initiative conceptualised by His Excellency, President Irfaan Ali, who is keen to create a qualified workforce that is competitive with the rest of the world as Guyana’s oil economy continues to thrive.
GOAL introduced the technical & vocational programme in December 2021, and 80 scholarship awardees completed the six weeks courses in April 2022.
Professor Jacob Opadeyi, GOAL’s Director, stated that successful participants would effectively perform and address challenges within the industry and continuously develop further competencies in the workplace.
“Successful participants attain an Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) Level 1 qualification that will allow participants to demonstrate the required level of technical competence. More importantly, the ECITB qualification is nationally recognised and accredited,” he further added.
The technical and vocational programme will encompass a blend of e-learning and practical training at EnerMech’s training facility, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara and will be delivered in three stages, as demonstrated below.
STAGES | COURSE TITLE | PLATFORM AND METHODOLOGY | DURATION |
1 | Pre-Learning Assessment | Online delivery | 2 hours |
2 | Safety Passport | Online delivery
|
Study at your own pace (average 18 hours)
|
3 | Technical Pathway | Practical delivery | 5 weeks.
NOTE: Participants will be required to attend classes (Monday to Saturdays) at EnerMech’s training facility at Lusignan.

It is apt to note that Stage 3 students can choose from one of the three ‘technical pathways’ to achieve their ECITB Level 1 qualification successfully.
These pathways are: Rigging and Erecting; Structural Mechanical Piping (SMP), Operative and Fabric Maintenance, Coating, and Scaffolding.
The online application portal is accessible on GOAL’s website: www.goal.edu.gy from Tuesday, August 16, 2022. The deadline to submit applications is midnight on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
